hugo capablanca may be best known for his more disco-minded output from his time on gomma records, but increasingly his scattered output and his label have been reaching towards more abrasive material. nothing will prepare you for the confrontational nature of this daring, no label transmission. the artwork alone is enough to challenge the senses, while the opening track is a metallic drone that gives way to the distended mutant beats of top less. guy debord is no less cut throat in delivering a disco punish remix of lap dance on the b side, all deconstructed groove and guttural noise, and then dance less rounds the record off with another excursion into unsettling, heavily processed noise.

after a killer 12 inches from mori ra, jongno edits is back with two tunes, blurring the lines between editing and sampling. the a-side, 42 below, is an uplifting korean fusion boogie with slap bass, tropical synths, summery guitar and female vocals. given a serious dub work out by monsieur jongno. effortlessly working the bassline and guitar with added muscle, subtle dub fx s, drum fills, teasing the vocal and synths before unleashing the chorus and guitar solos. nice brazilian vibes on this one, like a lincoln olivetti production, seoul went rio. on the flip side, drums and a bass is an obscure lp cut from a korean percussion ensemble with traditional korean folk elements, tribal drums and chanting, spikey avant garde guitar plucks, rolling punk funk bassline that builds the energy levels with jazz style vocals and horns. sounding very liquid liquid, a bit can, a bit pig bag, with some korean craziness. expertly extended and re-arranged by the jongno edits main man to give it more of a dancefloor edge, and ramping up the psychedelics. powerful stuff.

2 years ago, we celebrated our 10 years with 5 anniversary eps entitled 10 by ten, where we asked 10 of our favorite artists to write an exclusive track for the occasion. two of the stand out tracks were martin iveson - aka atjazz - leave me here as well as art of tones, koniokola, which we thought deserved a second life. freerange and delusions of grandeur boss, jimpster, blesses us with his deep yet driving rendition of leave me here, while fred everything chooses to update koniokola with a more dance floor approach and a strip down dub. we also included the original of leave me here which was never available on vinyl.

it goes without saying that space has always been central to techno – both in terms of its cosmic and futuristic trajectory, as well as in the spatial dimensions of sonic elements. etapp kyle’s first full ostgut ton ep release sees the ukrainian-born, berlin- based berghain resident emphasizing the connection between the two, while avoiding techno’s overt intergalactic clichés. by partially linking to his continuum ep (unterton, 2016), the results are four tracks of pristine, sci-fi minimalism, propelled by ambient synths and percussive explosions in distant skies – more utopian than dystopian. opener “alpha” establishes the cosmic theme from the get go, with chord swells and a whirring, phasing spacewind panning across the stereo image. while a subdued kickdrum gets things started, it’s the rhythmic interplay between dynamic high-hats and halled-out rimshots that guide the track through space. from there, “quantum” on a2 strips the voyage down to a glowing, unwavering arpeggiated synth line, interspersed with twisted, high-pitched bells and updated 909- esque snare patters.

sven weisemann is set to release his ‘bilateral relations’ ep via copenhagen’s echocord this september, comprising four originals from the german producer. sven weisemann has been immersed in the underground house and techno scene for quite some time now having started djing in 1997 during the rise of the scene on his home turf of berlin and going on to release material via the likes of amsterdam’s delsin, mojuba, telrae and liebe.detail amongst many more. here though we see sven joining the roster of echocord, a perfect fit for his more dubbed out compositions with artists like fluxion, rod modell and stl on the roster. ‘lunation’ opens the release and sees weisemann fuse emotive string melodies and cavernous vocal echoes with off- kilter rhythms and rounded sub hits before title-track ‘bilateral relations’ embraces a more direct four-four approach via sparse percussion and tumbling toms alongside choppy bass stabs and ever-unfolding, echoing dub chords. opening the flip is ‘monistic’, an airy ethereal number employing billowing pads, bright synth chimes and a dropped tempo dubbed out feel to create something truly stunning and thought provoking before the ‘decimation (valvle tr9 mix) closes things on a darker tip with looming stab swells, heavily swung drums and sporadic growling bass drones.

soma welcome back long time collaborator tony scott under his edit select alias with the bridge. having recorded such classics as x-track under percy x, tony has since found new depths with his edit select moniker which has seen countless releases on his own self titled label and more. with an album currently planned for release on soma in early 2018, edit select takes his first steps onto his hometown label with this new single.
suitably deep production is always the order of the day with any edit select release and this one is no different. title track, the bridge, begins with a chugging beat before gradually undulating into epic soundscapes. flux takes a darker turn as twisted synths resonate throughout the typical atmospheric backdrop. tonalist creates more rhythmic scenes with intense percussive elements keeping the track moving.

the third release by the paris based public system recordings knows no bounds or borders. a massive 2x12 inch compilation featuring the likes of fallbeil, innsyter, morah, buttechno and many more from the realms of heavy rust and wild animals. the heart beat of industrial noise resonating through weathered metal surfaces. psr003 is certainly writhing with wild tribal movement informed by the ferocity of feverish drum programming, waterlogged flanging and carefully degraded waveforms creating this fully engrossing and almost unclassifiable techno selection. it certainly puts an emphasis on the body aspect of ebm.

official re-issue of bermudian disco record! 1000 copies initial pressing. big tip! in 1981, bermudian band paradise recorded sizzlin hot, a flawless album of original material in the disco, boogie and aor style. producer, writer and pianist grant williams formed several bands before becoming the fourth member of paradise, alongside bassist wincy woolridge, drummer ronnie lopes and singer june ventzos whose voice commands the album. for five years, the group regularly performed in hotels before hitting the local z.b.m. studios to record their sole album. sizzlin hot is inspired by the sound of earth, wind & fire. the album delivers several blistering tracks that could have been huge club anthems if the record had been promoted outside of bermuda. since bermuda is a fairly remote island, its no wonder that paradise remains virtually unknown to this day. it is all the more reason why this album stands-out and has universal appeal though it was only ever intended as a local thing as grant williams says.

ltd repress --- after his comeback album on morphine in 2014, sote marks his return to rhythm by taking part in repitchÆs 10inch series with a banging twotracker extracted from his more than 20 years old unreleased archive. ôneuroenhancerö produced in 1995 is a heavyduty techno drilling machine, pairing an oldschoolmillslike groove with a throbbing mass of modular synths. on the other side ôin music i trustöÆs main engine is an incandescent hardcore/jungle beat, haunted by spacedout vocals in the darkness. the track was produced in 1997 with friend æsafarÆ a san francisco based dj/producer, shortly after sote&#835,,,,s initial experiments with jungle and drum n bass pre his warp ep in 2002.

one of the more unsung talents that came out of the gang starr foundation was the brooklyn-based duo group home, consisting of mcs lil dap and melachi the nutcracker. dap was first showcased on the gang starr posse cut “i’m the man,” on 1992’s daily operation, melachi appeared on “words from the nutcracker” from 1993’s hard to earn. the early group home song “so called friends” was also featured on 1993’s now-legendary gangstarr foundation sampler, which also gave the world jeru’s “come clean.” by 1995, dap and melachi had paid their dues and finally got their own full-length: livin’ proof. and it was everything that gang starr and any true school hip-hop fans could have wanted, produced almost entirely by dj premier (with two exceptions: “serious rap shit” helmed by guru himself, and “4 give my sins,” produced by jay-z mentor jaz-o (aka big jazz). beyond the album’s classic singles – “supa star,” “livin’ proof” and “suspended in time” – there are premier-overseen classics all over, including “the realness,” “inna citi life,” and “sacrifice.” in fact, many gang starr scholars agree that the beats on living proof are in the top 5 of all premier-produced albums – no small boast, but certainly hard to disprove.

h-productions proudly presents >hide and seek< by cari lekebusch. this is the ninth release in the full color spectrum serie, that is aiming to result in 10 different colored vinyl 12inch. both tracks are maintaining a stripped down policy, solid sound pictures and simple arrangements - with no unnecessary events. giving the dj more freedom to manouvre. all tracks in the full spectrum series have been generated with analog equipment, and are all inspired by the various h-productions releases that came out around 1993-1998.

los angeles based natan h and malta based artist owen jay return as gauss with their first ep of 2017. entitled resonator it offers more deep music with an electronic soul and is their fifth ep for their cultured label gauss ltd. the title track opens things up with a crunchy and impactful mix of weighty dub drums and spangled techno chords. it s a heavy track that builds in momentum and is sure to mangle minds with its skewed stabs and wiry electronics. shifted is a more fierce techno track with urgency in the kicks and a sense of anger in the coarse little snare explosions. more gurgling synths add weight and this one is a real stomper as a result. cutting ever more loose, odyssey is a mix of idm sound design, soulful synth smears and percolating electro tinged drums that are slick and futuristic. least squares completes this techno picture with spitting hits and claps, underwater chords and acidic sonar pulses that soothe the mind. this is an expansive ep that marks an exciting evolution in gauss s sound.

part ii - operated under extreme psychosis, performed live in the dead of night at the studio of the hague s pirate radio tonka , these two records contain an apocalyptic selection of the very darkest moments of its maker, an anglo-french bruxellois driftwood expat washed ashore on the west holland wasteland just to get even more lost in its empty shadow chessboard grid of luscious ghost town smoke screen structures built on nothing but loose sand, to get even more entangled in its reef-like vortex of the fleetwood parkland dune estates artifice of ugly evergreen high-tech verdure of rose and thorn , oh, yes, its many, many flowers sans mercee , red and white carnation, asphodel, or fleur de lys and fleur du mal , all awaiting, lurking gentle softness of the flesh, perfumed for luring prey, yet strikingly hard-wired through the courtly appearance and the troubling foliage of the count s many hidden pleasures, his many secret palace garden hedges, his royal seal concealed behind, oh, yes, its many, many spines, all hiding midst the ticket, like cloak and dagger, that poisoned slip of tongue, or poisoned tip of blade, and all s so easy to slip away and disappear into the vine and creeper, to make one trip and fall in smear of mud or was it blood?

roman producer (and a force behind minimalrome label) valerio lombardozzi known as heinrich dressel returns to barba with a second release for our label, titled -the styx swamp-. heinrich has a unique way of combining classic techno and electro sounds with elements from the beloved drexcyan universe and john carpenter leitmotifs, and making them come together in a manner that both moves your body and pushes your mind beyond the point of awareness. as with the previous record, -lurking underwater-, here he pulls off the move with the same efficiency and without sounding like he s repeating himself. -gray slope-, -sailing the nether waterways- and -the styx swamp- are all quite moody and deep, rich with sound and thick with vibe. however, the tracks feel equally at home in 4 am techno situation and a heady afterhours affair. he truly is a master of crafting hybrids whose influences get so flawlessly embedded that it s hard to point them out. if that s not enough, -the styx swamp- got a treatment by nigel rogers aka perseus traxx, a multi-faceted producer and a mighty live act performer. nigel stayed respectful to the original but made the original s bouncy groove into something more direct and reduced, while retaining the same feel conditioned by lead synth s hypnotic quality. we re known to give a little bit of extra love to our releases so (as all before) this one s pressed onto a heavy duty 180 gram vinyl and beautifully packaged in an original artwork by emaemaema.

reissue of the highly sought after nigerian funk-rock album, moving effortlessly between reggae, jazzy afrobeat and psych rock. soundway fans first got a taste of jay-u’s infectious beats with the track ‘some more’, featured on the soundway compilation “nigeria disco funk special: the sound of the underground lagos dancefloor 1974-79”. originally released by emi nigeria in 1977, this now-rare album was written by jay-u and engineered by disco-boogie artist goddy oku. opening with the up-tempo reggae number “reggae deluxe”, the album descends into mind-blowing jazz-funk featuring several killer saxophone solos. the journey ends with a trip into psych-prog rock, with a sound not dissimilar to that coming out of the early 70s british rock scene.

copenhagens music for dreams comes with yet another strong release - a double album of personal favourites compiled by jan schulte. according to all maps and witness accounts, germany does not officially have any tropical forests. this is of no concern to schulte however, who has unearthed many stunning examples of tropical drum music recorded there. perhaps the number of botanical gardens and palm houses in germany confused musicians into mistaking the climate, or maybe it was just a happy blend of escapism and multi-cultural integration within musical scenes that spawned such a curious output of undefinable tribal folk jazz. most of the tracks picked by schulte were released on small labels in the late 80 s. the musicians involved were mainly traditionally schooled, born and raised in germany. at that time to be interested in foreign folk music might have seemed a gimmick to some, what with the emerging -world music boom- already snowballing into the mainstream. but these songs, while they may be based on musical traditions from foreign lands, deal much more with introspection than exploitation. schulte himself points to his -general fascination for music that describes places where the artists have never been. songs about the jungle or the rainforest made by people that know the rainforest only from television and books. somehow i think you can hear their mythical imagination and fantasy in those tracks,- he explains....

coeo are toy tonics lead artists and they dont joke! technically perfect on a level that most producers start to get jealous. musically filled up with so much knowledge about the history of disco and house that its no wonder that big names like kenny dope, borrowed identity and tensnake are huge fans. and their styleà? its a pure hedonistic discoish attitude that combines the funk driven eclecticism of today, the curiosity of young music cats who always want to be ahead and a sense of quality in music that we miss in so many of todays house music productions. in fact its 2017 and a lot is changing in the house scene. the old melancholic deep house now is quite dead - while most deep house charts are filled up with sample based funk house. coeo are regularly on the top of the several deep house charts, and there is a reason: their tracks have that kind of new, nasty, sexualised vibe that gets more inspired from the late 1990ies french touch house or early masters at work production. from jazz djs and dj sets of wildstyle djs like harvey or the idjut boys. its not any more about the old schematic ketamine deep house that always sounds the same (and makes your feet fall asleep.) listen to flesh world! its black music basically. its booty sound. disco for sure. this track gets you riding on a trip. play it one time and youll play it every time. and: check the percussion jam remix by toy tonics head kapote.

bologna s increasing influence on dancefloors across the world continues as hotly tipped lo-fi house duo nas1 drop their first release on their home town label, sorryforthis records and is sure to be a big moment for their burgeoning reputations. it s an eclectic, multi-layered 4 track ep that pushes the boundaries of what is possible with such minimalist kit to the extreme and includes a remix from sound signature legend marcellus pittman. vino cheenese, as the title suggests, is a leftfield rumbler that, once finished, leaves you unsure how you got there - but sure you enjoyed the journey. oriental synths flutter over a pounding bassline, taking you from gloriously lo-fi, serene moments to being inundated with beats provided by a simmons sds8 and akai mpc1000 that puncture the surreal atmosphere. the pittman remix removes any pretence of serenity and has more of an eye on the dark end of the dancefloor. the bassline is rendered more ominous and the beats more relentless and distorted, while keeping the leftfield vibes in tact. ag pini brings in a lower tempo, with punching industrial yet melodic synths coming in and out of sparse rumbling beats it feels like a kraftwerk track if they had grown up in detroit. the springer is the hardest tune on the e.p – with layers upon layers of crunching beats surrounded by howling, swirling high end synths, looping in and out of each other, putting almost an entire history of dance music in one brutal track.

ewan jansen joins the butter sessions crew with five unique tracks spanning deep house cuts to electronic jazz, recorded in perth, australia between 2002 and 2016. on the a side, ewan offers up two memorable and moody gems credo and harbinger that are just as effective on the dance floor as they are in your lounge room! the b side sees something more obscure brewing, kicked off by blueprint a balearic compu-funked tune that makes you wish it lasted for hours, followed up by the timeless piece of jazz infused ambience on the beach . the tail end of the ep leaves us with erewhon an oddball jazz tinged house jam of incomparable qualities!

from 4lux to ten thousand yen, earl jeffers has been serving up plenty of upfront good time house music over the past few years, as well as steering the equally on point chesus alias. now he sidles over to the new melange label with byron the aquarius in tow, and the sun kissed vibes are positively pouring out of the record grooves. eira is where byron flexes some on-point melodic input, laying down ludicrously rich keys to ramp up the soul status of this damn fine garage-y bumper. the demo mix of eira resides on the flip and shows off a more stripped down, raw version that s no less satisfying on the ears.

after the success of last years debut ep onemind are back with more music on metalheadz, and coming along for the ride are a couple of friends in total science and throwing snow as they follow in the footsteps of ulterior motive and om unit (who both featured on ep1). ep2 is a prelude to onemind’s forthcoming album and is a sure sign of what to expect as the duo showcase an abundance of talent, from the heavy and well refined sounds of late addition to the spine-tingling pressure of early daze, they really do have it all covered.

lee burton is the next artist on raum musik and this is his first single for our label. lee is hailing from greece and we were quite happy to receive some demo tracks of him, as he caught our attention already a while ago. his productions are more house related, but always with a nice, modern twist. his powerful sound and also his very well structured sound design could easily be described as his signature and it s definitely worth keeping an eye on him.

senso sounds collects together two of the key tracks from bossman oliver huntemann’s new propaganda album for this 12 inch release. senso has established itself as a key label in the techno scene and huntemanns ear for quality remains as sharp as ever. rotlicht is a precision-honed instrument of techno weaponry - hard as nails and featuring epic and mind-bending breakdowns. additionally the egyptian dj and producer raxon reworks the track into a deep and solid groover with plenty of attitude. ‘poltergeist’ is a journey into huntemann’s feel for sound design and space in a club context, beguiling with its seeming simplicity, before hitting home with shifting, evolving grooves and haunting synth blasts. the young russian maksim dark adds his own interpretation of poltergeist to the release, edging up the darkness a little more and producing a growling, tough techno workout that will go over big on a lot of floors this year.

pressure traxx welcomes the backstage boys to our silver series. being regular faces on stages (and backstages) like sunwaves in romania and well educated dancefloor audiences all around the globe, these boys know the deal. dan andrei, andrei ciubuc and serban goanta aka kozo all individually made quite an impact in the past few years. for followers of a more subtle and smart club sound, these three names stand for constant quality. this release sees them combine forces for the first time in these two mind bending cuts, going deep down the rabbit whole with some truly exciting sonic adventures.

cosmic bridge welcomes yet another new talent to the roster: uk producer jordan parsons aka crypticz, who for the past few years has been distilling influences from drum & bass, dubstep, and footwork into a deeply personal sound. following eps and singles for different music, inflect audio, and doc scott’s own 31 records, crypticz delivers a personal, emotive release for cosmic bridge. forever was put together over the past year by om unit and crypticz — with the label boss inviting parsons “to take more risks and guiding him into the fog.” as a result the ep offers a distilled, more refined take on the dub aesthetic that has powered the young producer’s music to date.

phuture-t dials up dub and drumfunk from the samples of greenleaf’s new orleans influenced track, forward motion. the beats are more broken and the effect delays are longer. the signature interview recording has been chopped and used as downbeats on the progression changes.
with melodic and rolling percussion, earl grey creates a cheerful vibe to start the ominous maze remix. the intro leads straight into the body of the track when the contrabass becomes the dominant instrument making the tone tougher. the drum breaks transition through several change ups and syncopated edits.
metro gives mhc a new treatment with extra field recordings and an extended break down. the jungle influence is stronger with bigger, funkier subs. classic break beats are layered with sound effects and noises all supporting the main rhythm of the bassline.

emerging through storm-like waves of distortion, opener ‘alpha’ sets the scene for this beguiling cassette release, with melodies rising out of — and then descending back into — the chaos. ‘3000 years’ takes vocal samples as a starting point, before melting into layer upon layer of delay, after which ‘confounded’ picks up the pace with its heavily distorted beats and the side then closes to the sound of a distant choir burning in acidic ambience in the shape of ‘fruitless clicking’. the nightmarish, malfunctioning machinery vibes continue onto the second side, with the more dance oor-friendly ‘strange conversations’ and ‘the brink’ bookended by the two-part ambient epic ‘pale blue dot’. dark, glitchy, and at times outright uncomfortable — perfectly suited to the cassette format.

a1 is a deeply psychotic acid death march into confusion, so minimal and primitive (kick, snare, acidsquelch) it will challenge every beard and armpit and might even hypnotize the dj to the point he cannot mix in the next one. a2 is a straight up commodore 64 sid track with mongoloid data elephants tooting over a wobbly and tarded electroish beat. b1 is a dystopic dreamy rave stomper, starting out kinda datacuddly but gets more and more serious, with choirs of fable mooers taking you into that virtual bad trip you need. b2 continues as expected with more c64 sid madness, so snary i cant even determine if its in 115 or 230bpm.

renowned argentinean artist franco cinelli returns to unlock recordings with three intricate cuts from the vault this september. one of argentina s most respected producers, franco cinelli has been making music for over two decades. the rosario-born artist has made a name for himself with excellent releases on the likes of djulz bass culture, esperanza and raum...music, not to mention his collaborative project alongside dario zenker named maria fresca on ilian tape. with so many of the upper echelons of house, techno and minimal supporting his tracks, including ricardo villalobos himself, franco cinelli s inimitable productions are not to be overlooked. originally released in 2009 and now finally getting a proper vinyl release, cinelli s remix of saccobros why not constructs an energetic narrative that extends over ten minutes. tight kicks work alongside looped atmospherics as a muffled hook and infectious sample add to the heightening suspense. cuts from the vault also sees two new productions from the argentinian. morph sense is the more twisted of the two, demonstrating a medley of clicks and whirrs whilst sci-fi inspired arpeggios operate throughout. as the name suggests, dub sine of the moon is the deepest cut on the package, with its crunchy percussion and subterranean tape delays that form a hypnotizing aesthetic from start to finish.

new york s p. leone is back with the second release on his newly launched e-missions imprint featuring work them records founder spencer parker on remix duties. born and raised in brooklyn, where he discovered the legendary storm rave parties run by frankie bones and adam x, p. leone cut his teeth djing in the lower east side of manhattan before making techno himself. before long the producer dropped his first two releases on work them records, joining a roster spanning radio slave, spencer parker, young male, anetha and physical therapy. e-missions was then launched in early 2017, acting as a platform for co-founders p. leone and caiazzo with more exciting artists soon to be announced. discipline signals is dark and robust from start to finish, with functions of discipline 1 inaugurating the package with resonating kicks, trippy elements and industrial synths. functions of discipline 2 follows a similar aesthetic but heads into a deeper direction with its cavernous atmospherics and glitch inspired effects, making way for laced with its sinister drones and tantalising melodies. spencer parker then remixes laced , concluding matters with rugged drums, energetic hi-hats and a rumbling low-end.
